This study,
conducted by Mr Mc Clatchy, FAO international expert, shows that Syria
will not have to significantly alter its existing agro food policies as
result of a potential accession to the Organization but rather to
adjust some of them.
Mr McClatchy
is supported by five NAPC technical staff members, divided into two
groups. The first group, including Isam Ismail, Yasser Isa and Hajar
Baghasa, is gathering and preparing relevant information in order to
fill the Domestic Support (DS) tables according to the WTO format
WT/ACC/4, to calculate the Aggregate Measure of Support (AMS), the
value of all non-exempted domestic support provided to agricultural
producers (i.e. the sum of product-specific AMS of each commodity), the
non- product specific AMS and the Equivalent Measurement of support.
The second
group, composed by Waficca El-Hosni and Samira Subh, is responsible for
the calculation of the Tariff Equivalent Measurement of Support,
representing the price gap between a commodity domestic price and its
parity, calculated as a percentage of the parity price.
