Trade Policy Division

Mission

The TPD is intended to cover current and future research work on the integration of Syrian agriculture in the world economy. Research considers issues such as bilateral and regional agreements (EU, individual Arab countries), the accession of Syria to the WTO and the implications of these negotiations on the trade policy agenda of the Syrian Arab Republic. Skill building will continue during 2007. The research activities and the preparation of papers and seminars are essential in the skill building process.

Trade policy options for developing countries and in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Basheer Hamwi: Regulations and public support to the export marketing system

Mahmoud Babili: Multilateral trade negotiations, with focus on the WTO

Hajar Baghasa: Non-tariff barriers, including standards, technical and
phyto-sanitary measures, calendars and import procedures.

Muhammad Muhammad: Impact of domestic policies on Syrian total and agricultural trade performance

Khitam Alsoumaiah: Impact of TBT and SPS on Syrian trade as well as to study the required rules and measure for goods in the international trade.

Huda Abbas: Impact of application of bilateral, regional and multilateral trade agreements on Syrian trade performance.
