Declaration of the Start of the Formulation of
the National Program for Food Security (NPFS) |
|
 The
Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform launched the start of
formulating the National Program for Food Security (NPFS) and set
priorities to achieve it on Tuesday February 24. The Meeting was
opened by Dr Nabi Rashid Muhammad Deputy Minister of Agriculture ,
Dr. Tahir bin Yahya the FAO Representative in Syria, Mr Atieh El
Hindi the Director of the NAPC and Program Coordinator and Chief Of
The National Group of NPFS formulation, Dr. Fathi Alhadari Official
of food security in the Department of Management and Coordination of
Special Programs for Food Security in the FAO / Rome, in addition to
the Steering Committee and chiefs and members of the National
Technical Working Groups. |

13th Scientific Committee Meeting |
|
The
thirteenth Scientific Committee Meeting took place at the NAPC
premises on 21-22 December. The Scientific Committee is composed
of two international members, Mr H. De Haen and Mr. D. Romano,
and two national members, Mr M. Yassin and Mr M. Khazma.
The Committee reviewed the NAPC Progress Report for the second
half of 2008. and the quality assessment report of NAPC’s
outputs for 2008 in the context of sustainability Monitoring
System. In addition, it evaluated the recent activities in 2008
and the progress attained. |

Training Course for Palestinian agronomists |
|
Under the
auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform; the
Arab Agricultural Engineers Federation, the Islamic Development
Bank, and the NAPC jointly organized a Specialized Training course
for Palestinian Agronomists on
“sustainable rural development” for Palestinian agronomists of the Palestinian National Authority. The course was hold
at NAPC premises during the period 15-19 December.

in the Preparation for Accession to the WTO

 Under the
patronage of Dr. Adel Safar Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian
Reform, the National Agricultural Policy Center (NAPC), in
collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of
the United Nations, and the Arab Organization for Agricultural

Arab Countries under the World Food Crisis”

 Under
the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform,
the National Agricultural Policy Center (NAPC) in cooperation with
the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) organized
a training workshop on “Food Security Policies in the Arab Countries
under the World Food Crisis” on 3 - 7 August 2008, at the NAPC

Visit of Summer Training Students
|
|
Accompanied
by Professor Mahmoud Yassin, summer training students of the
Agricultural Economy Division of Faculty of agriculture in Damascus
University visited the NAPC on 27 July.
The students spent a training day in the NAPC and were informed
about its mission and activities. Chiefs of Divisions presented
their divisions’ mission, duties, and activities.
In
addition, students were trained to use the electronic Syrian
Agricultural Database SADB to retrieve agricultural statistical data
in a very easy technique. |

 The
13th issue of the NAPC Newsletter was published in
October in
order to keep the readers abreast of the last developments regarding the
dialogue on agricultural policy, considered as a crucial element enhancing
exchange of information and fostering the collaboration of different
